Those with existing well known sLDs
(or ccTLDs for that matter) could link, mirror, point, redirect to their new .museum
sLD for as long as seems necessary and prudent, even if that is years. The financial
and technical costs would be minimal. This can also be done with existing business
or other sLDs that are being given their own namespace, such as .reg, and would be
transparent to the end-user.

Exactly right. ICANN should do this with the museum community (or some similar
group if it is believed they could ramp up more effectively) as a proof of concept.
