Q50: Does the schedule allow sufficient time for public comment?A50: Definitely
not!
In particular in the case of chartered TLDs with "sponsoring organization"
the period should be long enough to allow public input and challenges to the authority
of the self-proposed "sponsoring organization" for the area covered by the charter.
Another
case in which to extend the public input would avoid embarassement of ICANN is the
case in which the proposed string has special unwanted meanings in some languages.
Last
but not least, ICANN has been often criticised, with or without reason, for not allowing
sufficient time for public input, and a sign of the contrary will be appreciated.
The
public comment period could be extended to cover the greatest part of, if not all,
the month of October, while it could be appropriate for the Board to take a decision
at the Annual Meeting.
This delay can still allow completion of the contracts
before the end of the year.
