I never really meant to say that "strictly" non-profit ORGs should have control.
In fact the place I worked at was a 503c not-for-profit which is still different
than a strict non-profit which I think ICANN is trying to jerk us around with. I
still think the idea of uniformly enforcing the initial RFC designations would be
a good idea and end up helping out the "little guy" in a number of domain disputes.
I'm not (and never had been) a fan of NSI/Verisign's control of the .COM desingation
and have gotten my fair share of spam from folks abusing WHOIS. Unfortunately, as
I've seen, ICANN has dropped the ball on everything that's rolled through their court.
