The .org domain must be left open for personal use for a number of reasons:
1) It has been the only domain where personal websites seem
to fit. 2) The .com domain is
almost totally saturated, evidenced by the
fact that companies have to invent new WORDS to be
their name so they can register (Agilent, Lucent, etc.) 3)
Even adding a *new* TLD for personals would create confusion
and unnecessary hassel. I however, agree fully
that companies and commercial organizations
should be barred from the .org domain. How about this, if
you want to *sell* something from your site in .org, you
must be registered as an NPO or lost your domain. As an aside, since most of the
comments so far seem to be revolving around the .org issue, perhaps this was just
a decoy to distract us from the fact that VeriSign is completely taking over the
.com, I seem to recall that the registrar was supposed to be separate. -Sickman's
