Even as Verisign is negotiating to "restore" .org to what it has not been for years,
remarkably, Network Solutions is TODAY still selling .org domains to anyone and everyone
-- including commercial entities, as this FAQ copied from their site shows. This
just cannot be undone at this point without incredible unfairness to those who relied
on the state of the rules being exactly what these "experts" represent it to be below.
Think they'll be giving refunds to people who get the rug pulled out from under them
if this goes through?
6. What do .COM, .NET and .ORG signify in a Web Address?
.COM, .NET, and .ORG are top-level domains in
the hierarchical Domain Name System. These top-level domains are just underneath
the "root", which is the start of thehierarchy. Anyone may register Web Addresses
in .COM, .NET, and .ORG. In fact, the best way to protect the uniqueness of your
online identity and brands is to register your Web Addresses in all of the top-level
domains.
