I agree with the idea of
removing for-profit corporations from the .org TLD.However, there are a large
number of un-incorporated entities which own .org domains which have no other TLDs
which they can use due to the aforementioned for-profit corporations snapping those
domains up during the Great Internet Domain Grab. This is particularly true
of individuals who have common names (ie Paul Johnson, Steve Smith, etc) which have
been taken up in every possible combination in the .com, .net, etc TLDs.
By all
means, feel free to remove Corporate America from .org, where they never should have
been in the first place. Just dont punish individuals (or groups), who are
often acting as un-incorporated not-for-profit organizations, by slapping together
burdensome requirements which will require them to either give up an already established
and published domain or go through a morass of government paperwork and requirements.
It
would be far better to state who CANNOT have a .org than who can.
Those of us who
hold this view can only hope that these forums are not merely a way of allowing people
to vent without any serious intent of listening.
