Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.The
idea of reserving .reg for registered trademark holders
may not be workable.
As I understand it, the same word may
be used as a trademark by two or more different
companies,
as long as they're in different businesses so there's no
chance
of confusion. One example of this is the name VAX,
trademarked by DEC (now
Compaq) for computers and by a British
company for vacuum cleaners. Another
example is Apple Records
and Apple Computers (though I think that became a bit
tricky
when Apple Computers started providing music capabilities).
I've even
seen a PC retailer called Sun Computers, though that
may have infringed.
If
two different companies own the trademarks on Acme
marshmallows and Acme rocket
shoes, who gets acme.reg?
