This may seem of topic at first, but please do read on: Scenerio:
I patent something, and I don't use it the way it was intended, but in fact let people
do as they please with it, then it gains popularity, or I start losing out in another
area and wat to drive people into the area i'm losing in... Now.. I decide that restricting
my patent and going after people will drive them towards my cash cow. I have
to PROVE that I've been TRYING to keep and enforce my patent all this time.
I'm probably going to lose when it comes to court. With the new TLD's, I think
these bastages are trying to enforce an old 'patent' (I know it's NOT a patent, it's
a figure of speech) and make people leave the less expensive .org in favor of the
more expensive .biz, .bah, .whatever domains.. if THATS not the angle, then it's
that they want it to LOOK like people are really flocking to the new domains...
It's money related, you can bet that no corp has ever done anything for 'the people'
without a bit of gold glinting in the back somewhere... My 2 cents.
