Separation of Registry and Registrar Functions |
Message: |
|
Verisign/NSI has already started to get hold of other domain-related services, such
as the aftermarket (with the buy-out of the largest aftermarket site -- GreatDomains.com).
While there is the potential for abuse by any registrar that is also working in the
aftermarket (by not properly releasing expired domain names with highest appraisals),
having direct access to the registry would allow further abuse by transferring high-potential
expired domains directly to the registrar's aftermarket.
Therefore the .com top level domain, which is the most controversial and
has the largest number of registrations by far, should have a distinct separation
between the registrar and registry.
