The fee for new registrar accreditation
applications is now US$1,000. According to ICANN this amount is very much lower than
the actual cost of processing the application. ICANN proposes to raise this fee to
US$2,500.
In my opinion application fee is for accreditation.
Therefore,
there should be no annual fee for accreditation, rather accreditation application
fees should be US$2,000 for all types of Domains. This amount should be as invitation
price to invite more people to join the competition in DNS, being the basic objectives
behind the direction of the Hon’ble President of USA dated 1st July 1997.As I
understood that at present ICANN need for total revenue to recover
expenses and reserve contribution of $6.030 million. At present total registration
for Dot Com is about 21.00 Millions. While registrar accreditation fees not recovers
larger amount of expenditure. Even ICANN s in non-profit organization, but it should
not borrow funds as it done in past, therefore sufficient amount should be in reserve
fund to met any unpredictable events beyond the control.
Therefore, this will encourage
more competition and fair if ICANN introduce accreditation fees on the basis of Domain
registration by a registrar. Every Registry should be empowered to collect and deposit
requisite amount with ICANN within the 7th day of the next month in respect of every
month. This will be easy and very much possible.
Such fees for each Domain may
be as follows:-
For Dot Com $0.25
For Dot Net $0.10
For Dot Org $0.01
or free
For CC Dot $0.50
For Dot biz $0.50 subject to review after
one year.
For Dot info $0.50 subject to review after one year
