As I have stated
in an earlier thread, I am in a unique position. I have quite a bit to gain financially
by rooting for Afilias to be awarded .web, since I am a Tucows registered service
provider and as such my company would benefit immediately (according to Afilias paper
dream) from registering dot webs. However, I believe wholeheartedly that IOD deserves
to be awarded the .web registry. They are the pioneers of the first alternate
TLD, have done their homework, and are more than willing to work with ICANN to bring
their years-long goal to fruition. ICANN, on the other hand, is showing that it
has no interest in fairness. All comments by ICANN regarding IOD were negative.
Where were the positive notes? The pioneering effort by IOD? The successful four
years of the first alternate registry? The private citizens with no affiliation to
IOD that showed their support of the alternate .web? ICANN needs to retract its
slanderous and biased *opinons* of IOD's application and re-evaluate based on reality,
not the paper dreams of Afilias. --M Lynn
