Thousands of co-ops around the world and millions of
their members strongly support the designation of .co-op as a Special Purpose, registered
TLD. Setting up a .co-op designation will offer a unique TLD to co-ops in a
wide variety of industries -- food, agriculture, finance, insurance, child care,
housing, consumer goods, shared services, transportation, marketing, and others.
Thousands of co-op businesses will find it appealing to use a .co-op TLD, expanding
capacity for other groups under the .com, .org, or other appropriate TLDs.
A registered TLD, with screening to ensure that groups truly operate as cooperatives,
is appropriate to the co-op form of business and desirable to the cooperative community.
NCBA, the ICA, and Poptel, are well-established, well-recognized organizations
fully capable of meeting the demands of TLD registration. These organizations
are well positioned to make .co-op TLD accessible to co-ops throughout the world,
not just in the U.S. or a few regions. Establishing a .co-op TLD is a great
idea -- to expand Internet capacity as well as for the cooperative business community.
I urge your support of this application at this time. -- Karen Zimbelman on
behalf of the Cooperative Grocers' Information Network (CGIN)
