Here's an angle for a news story. The ICANN determination of new domains eerily
mirrors the constitutional crisis which the presidential election is causing.
- In both, partisans are arguing that what's good for the people is what
happens to validate their "candidate", and playing fast and loose with the facts.
- In both, partisan appointees (secretaries of state, ICANN board members)
are taking stances based on their affiliations (Ken Stubbs, etc.).
In both,
litigation and/or governmental oversight may decide what was supposed to be a democratic
vote.
No doubt you can craft better angles and comparisions than me, but
I thought I'd give you a start!
