FATURE supports IATA ".travel" Application |
Message: |
|
Dear Sir/Madam, The Federation of Air Transport Users Representatives in
Europe (FATURE) was concerned to learn that a report prepared by the ICANN Secretariat
is not favourable to this application by IATA for a new Top Level Domain. We
found this particularly distressing since earlier this week the Berkman Centre for
Internet and Society at Harvard Law School issued an evaluation of all the TLD applications,
placing IATA in a tie with one other applicant for first place with 26 out of 27
possible points in its numerical ranking and selecting the IATA application as one
of only 6 which it recommended it should be granted. The Harvard study described
the IATA proposal as "an interesting, focused proposal in an extremely thorough application
package that would offer an innovative combination of commercial and informational
public services". FATURE would wish to assure you that we are satisfied that
the proposed governance of the ".travel" TLD based on the commitments made by IATA
will indeed be representative of the global and diverse travel industry. While
the travel industry has already succeeded in developing e-commerce within the ".com"
framework, it needs and deserves a dedicated top level domain in order to exploit
the potential of the internet to the fullest for the benefit of the public. Yours
faithfully Philip Martin PHILIP MARTIN Secretary FATURE
