ICANN is not a governmental body!!! They have no authority to make political decisions.
They are a technical coordination body. That is all they are allowed to do. Here
is the difference: 1) Addressing - a technical issue 2) Naming - a political
and economic issue ICANN should be concerned with Addressing but not Naming. ICANN
is trying to do both. It has been given the authority to create policy for technical
issues regarding addressing. But, it was never empowered to handle the political
or economic issues of Naming. One of these days the rest of the world (you know...
the other soveriegn nations outside the US ??) are going to DEMAND that the US Dept.
of Commerce relinquish control of the Root! If you "heard ANYONE complaining about
ICANN's treatment of other countries" -- maybe you should sit in on a meeting of
the CCtlds sometimes. Last I heard they told ICANN to get stuffed.
