What's the reason for limiting the "free" DNS to an "ICANN
approved, exclusive DNS"? There
is no confusion now with alternate roots, but there
still is a certain consumer choice, which should be
strenghtened by including alternate roots to the legacy root
and NOT weakened by excluding them.
Business interests,
as "I want to keep my dot com important"
are really
bad arguments against that improvement of consumer
choice.
If alternate roots meet a technical standart
(to be defined),
they should be introduced into the
legacy root by ICANN.
Otherwise we are talking about
"protectionism".
