ICANN must compromise, it must stop the takeover of TLDs in the free root zones.
ICANN must become more accountable and become less influenced by the corporate lobby.
By duplicating the original DotBiz they have opened pandoras box, all hell is about
to break loose. Every corporate lawyer with a baseball bat is going to make
life hell for small business everywhere, TM holders are falling over themselves to
stake their claim on every new TLD. What would happen if Microsoft decided to create
their own root zone? ICANN have shown there are deals to be done that can make
lots of money, and Microsoft are in the position to ensure most net users would see
their root. ICANN have shown it's easy to duplicate any TLD you want if you
have enough money behind you. Now it's open season and it's going to be very
hard to put the genie back in the bottle. ICANN must compromise, they should hold
immediate talks with the original DotBiz and they should now review why they got
into this position in the first place. Who is making policy? They must
sack those responsible for this attack on the namespace and discover what their motives
were. Anything less than this will ensure the ultimate destruction of ICANN
because thats what will happen when nobody uses their root servers anymore.
It's not to late to act now and put things right, failure to do so will mean the
end of ICANN and the fragmentation of the Net. If you make a deal with the
devil he will come back for your soul, don't sell out the internet, tell the devil
to go to hell.
