Ben Edleman's distribution
of IOD's whois records merely shows that IOD has, naturally on a smaller scale, a
registry just like .com does, with registrants, live sites, and dead sites. In
fact, I think it says a lot about their registry that Ben was able to successfully
use their zone transfer and WHOIS systems to gather this information! If nothing
else, it shows that IOD is able to run a robust registry as they have done since,
what '96? Comparing this to the embarassing antics of .info and .biz, who are
so inept at setting up their system that they have to resort to selling pre registrations
and lottery tickets and then have IANA run their servers for them, and it is very
clear that ICANN chose politically rather than technically. Ben's little research
project does IOD more credit than anything else, if you ask me. This post not
my own words, but well stated. How can they be my words, I'm dead!
