while i agree with your position regarding this issue;
i do have?a comment to make:
?
microsoft has been doing this very same thing at the
software level for much longer -- redirecting dns
errors to an advertising and revenue-generating msn
search page. 
?
verisign just figured out a way to one-up microsoft at
their own game (taking over your computer and
everything related to it).
?
so. if you shut down verisign's "wildcard" error page,
you must also go after microsoft's msn search dns
error page. something 90 percent (or so) of web users
would see if verisign's didn't exist. 
?
then, you need to go after all the
malware/spyware/adware utilities and bho's (most of
which end up installed without the user's knowledge,
understanding?or ok) that also do the same or similar
functions.
?
and while you're at it; put an end to "newdotnet" and
their bogus "domains". -- what happens when you guys
want to add a tld that they've already "used" ?
