Stop being diplomatic with VeriSign. They are violating the DNS protocols, and they are hi-jacking traffic on all protocols, including telnet, ftp, and e-mail. They are re-directing e-mail not addressed to VeriSign to their own site. Even though their server claims to bounce the mail, there's no telling what they really do with the messages. If they can't be trusted to comply, they can't be trusted to refrain from capturing e-mail messages.

If a system attached at a lower layer of the internet was generating disruptive traffic there would have been no hesitation to yank its connection. Don't hesitate to yank VeriSign.

VeriSign's statement that "users ... are benefiting from the improved web navigation offered by Site Finder" is an outright lie. There is no way in which it is improved.

This isn't just breach of contract and abusing a monopoly position, It is criminal fraud and wiretapping. They should have been charged with crimes by now. This is way beyond anything Microsoft has ever done, or any of the virus writers, or any of the crackers.

You cannot allow anyone to violate the protocols. Stop talking to VeriSign. Communicating with VeriSign is akin to negotiating with a terrorist. Find a new provider, pick a date, and tell the world to switch over to the new provider on that date. Do it within a week. You should already be prepared to do this in case of emergency. (If you don't have an emergency communication system you need to create one that does not use the internet.) Banish VeriSign from any internet access ever again. They have thoroughly demonstrated their intent to vandalize the internet.

I also recommend that you have two separate contracts in the future with two different companies in two different countries. Second-level providers would randomly pick one for primary and one for secondary.

Even if they comply now, you must not renew VeriSign's contract.

How ICANN responds to this will affect the internet forever. Any hesitation will be an invitation for more criminals to disrupt the internet. ICANN has already waited too long.
