When a company launches a major new service, it is normally accompanied by, if
not preceded by, major press announcements and/or ad campaigns. Verisign put
their SiteFinder in place with absolutely no prior notice, nor is there any
press release on their site indicating that they intended to do so. The first
mention of it on their site was September 23rd, a weak response to the initial
outcry over the DNS wildcard issue. I think this clearly shows that they knew
they were heading for difficulty and that they had to sneak it in under the
cover of darkness, so to speak. I hope that this behavior will provide fodder
for the legal actions being taken against VeriSign.
