Ever since VeriSign implemented this "feature", I have been having severe
problems using the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org. I cannot use it to look
at sites that no longer exist, since they now exist in some form thanks to
SiteFinder. Sites that the Wayback Machine (hereafter, the WBM) could normally
open are inaccessible because of the robots.txt file that is read when the WBM
checks the URL. Also, as many people have already commented, it makes the
process of fixing a mistake in a URL that I type all the more annoying, since I
then have to re-type the entire URL, rather than just fixing the error in the
URL. All I ask is that this unnecessary "service" be discontinued, as it has
severely hampered my ability to use the Internet.
I have signed and I agree with the petition at http://www.whois.sc/verisign-dns/
