This is not their only abuse: how about their charging $35/yr for a domain
which can be obtained from (almost) any other registrar for $15 down to $5?
And this, why? Because they advertise their own registrar service to all these
free viewings from SiteFinder? That is not Capitalism, it's abuse...it is
price-fixing directed solely at the uninitiated & uninformed. How many
registrants do you suppose would pay $35 for a domain name if it were disclosed
to them that they could obtain the same registration (with possibly better
add-on services) for 35% to 15% of the price they were about to be billed from
Verisign? I wonder which registrar has the highest switch rate once their
customers discover the folly of their initial registration (vs. which registrar
has the most loyal registrants)? Didn't anyone ever inform Verisign that the
most expensive activity is new customer acquisition... and that the lifetime
value of a customer is many times more than the initial sale? Ver!
isign, we don't trust you anymore.
I have signed and I agree with the petition at http://www.whois.sc/verisign-dns/
