The consequences of this unilateral action by VeriSign to essentially every
user, application and protocol which depneds on accurate DNS information is
little short of extortion. VeriSign's lock on the TLDs it runs roots for has
become license to bend the entire DNS tree it supports to its will. It is an
affront to the technical, philosophical and spiritual underpinnings of the
Internet and its historical foundation on open standards adhered to
cooperatively by a community of autonomous entities. If VeriSign is not held
answerable to the community, its privilege of operating the root servers it
does must be revoked.
I have signed and I agree with the petition at http://www.whois.sc/verisign-dns/
