RELEASE: IRSC Announcement: Obtaining an HINTS file for IRSC

Monday 7 September 1998 - IRSC Release - Global

The IRSC wishes to make it as easy as possible for Internet connected users
to obtain the best performance and most global coverage possinble on the
Internet today.

In order to do so, the IRSC invites Root Server Operators as individuals or
in orgnisational groups to join and syncronise with the IRSC Root Zone Data.

Users can obtain new Domain Name Server HINTS files from any IRSC member site.

There are several files you may use - or combine in any combination.

Each RSC has it's own HINTS file specifically detailing the Root Servers in
it's network. Some members only have ONE Root Server. It is in your
interests to combine any single entry HINTS file with other files.

For example, if you are in (or close to) Australia, your closest Root
Servers providing full coverage of all historic ccTLDs and gTLDs is
provided by the AURSC. http://www.aursc.ah.net You can obatin the AURSC
Hints file from the FTP server: ftp://ftp.aursc.ah.net/rsc/irsc/root.aursc

Follow the instructions at the AURSC web site for details on how to
configure your DN Servers and Network environment to reduce traffic costs
and increase performance (in some cases.)
