But Dave, you're going to have none regardless. It doesn't matter who the
registries are, they have control over a TLD (or a few TLDs) each. Until
a scheme is created to allow sharing at the registry level, this is going to
be a fact.

Once this is realized, the question of for-profit vs. non-profit isn't
nearly
as important as is the question of making sure that a registry of any
sort doesn't "lock-in" users.

Let's abandon the for-profit/non-profit issue and concentrate on how to
make registries fair to all users.
