Well, to be honest, it's known that other countries (e.g. China) already
have their own set of roots up & running, so the "traditional" one is
more and more becoming perceived as the "US root"... and if you take
that line of thought to the end, then most other parts of the world will
set up their arrangements, and it will become an internal US affair who
runs the current root; and there will be no need to internationalize
ICANN any more.
So I guess that my paper on "how to let multiple roots live peacefully
together" (printed in the WGIG book) will become more valuable :-)
