Closed TLDs

Afternoon,

I would just like to say that any generic word covering an activity or
product, e.g. app, insurance, book, that has been registered by an
enterprise should be stopped and the TLD released back out to the
general public to register names for. Why should an organisation own a
generic name, my own initials are APP, I can create a book, yet my
children could think that only one organisation can be these things
and I was named for an apple product range.

However, I realise the commerciality of these registrations and the
fees paid, so a closed period of 180 days during which time the
organisation can use the name without any other commercial interest.
After that time, the name becomes publicly available for purchase as a
TLD.

We are at a fundamental crossroads on the internet and old business
models are failing and this seems to be the last hurrah of the
corporation to restrict individuals from finding out the whole picture

I thank you for your time to read this

Phin
