Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private.
I have several domain names registered and just the act of registering my
domains has generated numerous phone, mail, and email solicitations. Many are
not legitimate. I operate businesses from home. Other people, without the order
of a court or other due process, do not have a right to information about me
(like my home address) that I have not chosen to publish on my domain. I should
have a choice in the matter. I have a right to privacy.
Again, private information should be kept private.
If there is a need for more information, the courts, Secretaries of State, and
other channels do exist.
Thank you.
