ICANN - Scott Nonnenberg Says Respect Our Privacy
To: comments-ppsai-initial-05may15@xxxxxxxxxSubject: ICANN - Scott Nonnenberg Says Respect Our PrivacyFrom: Scott Nonnenberg <scott@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>Date: Wed, 24 Jun 2015 08:27:37 -0700
 Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
Private information should be kept private, unless there is a demonstrated
need. And even then, it should go through the right channels.
The few times I failed to properly set up my personal and/or small business
domain WHOIS information, I started getting mountains of spam. That's the most
innocuous version of what could happen. For example, women are threatened
online every day; we should make it as hard as possible to track them down in
person.
Thank you.
Scott Nonnenberg
