Dear ICANN –
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one’s personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
We as Americans should live up to our ideals of being a free sovereign state.
Liberty is what makes America great, and surveillance is counterintuitive to
what we stand for. This is not what the American people have asked for, and
it's more than obvious that such a bill is purely for the sake of benefitting
corporate interests. And in the context of a supposed democracy, that is beyond
ludicrous. We ask that those involved with ICANN come to their senses and do
their job, which is to provide and protect the public, first and foremost. The
bill is not only a threat to our rights as Americans, but a threat to
everything our country stands for.
Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Regards,
Christopher
