Dear ICANN -
Regarding the proposed rules governing companies that provide WHOIS privacy
services (as set forth in the Privacy and Policy Services Accreditation Issues
Policy document):
I urge you to respect internet users' rights to privacy and due process.
- Everyone deserves the right to privacy.
- No one's personal information should be revealed without a court order,
regardless of whether the request comes from a private individual or law
enforcement agency.
We even in Austria, Europe, have a current example where privacy helps people
to live their normal lives. Just Friday (26th June 2015) the previous owner of
the domain "eaudestrache.at" hat to shutdown as rightwing activists prepared to
visit him in person and threatened him with "war is coming". As we have no
privacy-option (yet) for .at domains the MEP Michel Reimon had to takeover from
the threatened private person to keep this site up, as he is now involved with
this anti-extreme-right-wing-politics-site he will have to take extra
protection measures.
Therefore: Private information should be kept private. Thank you.
Kindest Regards,
Harald Kapper / kapper.net
