The Government of Egypt welcomes the opportunity to comment on the proposed
measures for Letter/Letter two-character ASCII Labels to avoid confusion with
corresponding country codes, and appreciates the efforts exerted to come up
with the measures proposed to mitigate confusion with country codes.
After consultation with Egypt's ccTLD registry operator, we believe the
proposed measures do not fully address the raised concerns and fall short in
addressing GAC advice on the topic as per the most recent Helsinki Communique.
Moreover, we believe the proposed measures would force defensive registrations,
which we do not feel is an appropriate way forward.
We therefore, reiterate our position, submitted on Mar 25, 2015, and request
Egypt's Letter/Letter two-character ASCII label, '.eg', not to be used at the
second level of any gTLD without explicit consent from both the Government and
the .eg registry operator.
Kind Regards
