well, the timing works, as the announcement points out, for "those from the
community planning to attend the ICANN meeting in Dakar, Senegal to transit
through Rome prior to departing for Dakar later in the week."

with the silent caveat that icann travel support usually doesn't extend 
beyond the meeting dates, so it amounts to a european-or-funded-vendor
event, and therefore of no general public interest.

there's stuff relevent to a region, and stuff that's relevent to those
vendors that are investing in the meeting attendence cost, but those two
communities of interest are ... just two communities of interest.

besides, invites are someone else's ranking gig.

more besides, anyone doing policy at dakar has to sacrifice half a week
pre-meeting on a sideshow.

still more besides, nanog/arin are the preceeding week, and a month away
is just too much non-fun.
