Hi

The SSAC report accurately describes the current issues with dotless
domains, But instead of recommending prohibitive measures, I believe there
are good reasons to conclude differently.

With the recent forming of a dotbrand constituency, and a large number of
dotbrand applicants, there will be many thousand dotbrand domains in the
future. A dotbrand domain is looked at as the strongest brand exposure a
brand can get on the Internet. Some years down the road, there will likely
be more than 10.000 dotbrands.

Instead of trying to force the dotbrand owners to not use their TLD like
they would want to, why not recommend changes to the Internet protocols?
With so many dotbrands in the future, this is likely to come up later
anyway, These companies represent a very strong force. If ICANN didnt want
thousands dotbrands, then promoting it and allowing it in this first
application round was a bad idea. Restricting the logical and natural use
of a dotbrand is in my opinion wrong. Software developers will adapt
changes over time. Even if it takes 10 years for all applications to adapt,
its worth starting to make the changes sooner rather than later.

The example of possible security issues related to a windows environment
allowing code execution when using a dotbrand with content must be
explained. This does not seem to be a true statement, and looks like
guesswork to add arguments against such use.

Best,
