Registrar Stakeholder Group Position Regarding
.XXX sTLD Application Process
BACKGROUND
The Registrar Stakeholder Group ("RrSG") is providing comments regarding the
.XXX sTLD application process. This position paper captures the overall
sentiment expressed by the RrSG members who provided feedback about this
matter. Due to time constraints, however, no formal vote regarding this
position paper was taken.
RrSG POSITION
The application process regarding the .XXX Sponsored Top-Level Domain (".XXX
sTLD") has been time consuming, resource intensive and procedurally
challenging. Regrettably, this was unnecessary; even as ICANN found itself in
procedurally unfamiliar territory, six years is far too long to arrive at a
final decision on a new TLD.
The RrSG encourages ICANN to act expeditiously with its due diligence and
negotiation of the proposed .XXX sTLD registry agreement so it may focus its
attention on other important community matters, including the introduction of
new gTLDs. The RrSG also hopes that in light of ICANN's experience and the
maturity gained through the .XXX sTLD application process, the application
process for and negotiation of new gTLD registry agreements will be both swift
and procedurally straightforward.
CONCLUSION
The opinions expressed by the RrSG in this position paper should not be
interpreted to reflect the individual opinion of any particular RrSG member.
