That will depend on a couple of factors, actually.  If the root that resolves the original TLD continues to do so, nothing changes except that there will be duplicate domain names and users will be horribly confused.

If the roots do not continue to resolve the original TLDs, you will not be able to reach them unless you point directly to the TLD servers themselves.  Most users will not do that, since it means constantly changing DNS settings.

There are other methods being developed that will allow users to have choice, however.  Stay tuned. :)
