You should read things more carefully.  Here's a quote from their press release yesterday.  Read between the lines.  Afilias seems to be letting the world know that there will be a large number of challenges.  I don't know where you got this idea that only 3000 names will be challenged - everyone knows Plankenstein has more than that just by himself. "Afilias expects to challenge a significant number of Sunrise names whose trademark information may be facially invalid...In its memorandum to legal counsel, Afilias advised counsel of the restrictions that the Sunrise Period has placed on domain names and strongly urged them to caution potential customers regarding the purchase of Sunrise domain names on auction." http://www.afilias.info/news/press_releases/pr_articles/2001-10-18-01
