It is reasonable to assume, that is what they wanted everybody to think.

They could make more profit that way.

Now it looks like they will take them off you and make more profit still.

In my considered opinion, Afilias are the major fraudsters here:

Without any checks - they wanted this all to happen. Except the getting caught part, they wished it put down to 'proof of concept'.
