This has been the most debated topic on this forum.  It may not be possible to arrive at the total certainty as to which or which are not the generic words, there is fair amount of consensus as to what constitutes a generic word.  I believe when a trademark is granted for a generic name, it is granted subject to the condition that trademark holder does not have exclusive right that generic word.  If this is the treatment given to trademark holders in their own realm with regard to generic names why should registries or ICANN go out of their way to placate trademark lobby and give inequitable preference to trademark holders in registration process.   This is like being more loyal than the king! No offence to DaveKing2 :-)
