will Afilias, ICANN and WIPO do about these "inappropriately" registered names? Not
much you would guess when 1)the registry Afilias Ltd. is prepared to register names
with blank TM data fields; 2) the registry Afilias Ltd. is prepared to register names
with "no trademark" in the TM data fileds; 3) the registry Afilias Ltd. is prepared
to register names with "example 1234567" in the TM data fields; 4) the registry Afilias
Ltd. is prepared to register names with TM data fabricated by the registrar in the
case of SpyProductions; 5) the registry is prepared to register names with ineligible
TM registration date e.g. the year 2040; the registry Afilias Ltd. is prepared to
register names with the same TM registration numbers; 6) the registry Afilias Ltd.
is prepared to register names claiming IP rights through "common law"; 7) the registry
Afilias Ltd. is prepared to register names to applicants who had the foresight to
register TMs with the .info extension, years before the advent of the extension..hmmm.....
Thank
heaven that there were only 10,000 instances of the incompetence of Afilias - and
that no one lost any money!!!
We should all consider ourselves lucky and grateful
to ICANN for selecting a cartel with the resources of 18 registrars to hold the licence
for .info - can you imagine the fiasco that could have resulted had the licence been
awarded to an inexperienced registrar?
