You should not have to be an official non-profit to have a .ORG address.  All existing .ORG addresses should be grandfathered, and any domain that is not used for profit should be allowed to get a .ORG address.

Note that this is seperate from non-profit organisations, since there is a lot of work involved in aquiring that status.

Up till now, .ORG has been the natural place for all sort of non-commercial entities, such as local clubs.  Requiring non-profit status will eliminate many of these small groups.

.NET is supposed to be for networks and service providers.
.COM is supposed to be for commercial entities.
