Subject: America home of the done-deal

I must change my encyclopedia. I looked up the definition for America and among the description was "Free Market Economy" and we have this rather shady ICANN-VeriSign deal for another four years.

Why only have one TLD controlling enterprise? Should we not have at least three or four - isn't that what markets and competition is about? Don't come up with any weak excuses about 'possible conflict where three different companies fight over registering the same .com address' - designing a name reservation and control system would be about the simplest piece of software you could write - and share over the 'net.

Still, I ought not to be surprised - America is the company that invented the board game 'Monopoly'
