The intelligent contributions articulated here in the public comments section,
and across the net, clearly detail for ICANN the harmful effects that will
result from this unlimited tld proposal. These effects will be widespread,
enormously costly and needlessly damaging.
We are at a point where continuing down this path cannot be justified by ICANN.
The internet is not in need of radical "innovation", but does need stability,
controlled/planned growth, and which is not channeled through ICANN's
self-serving profit orientation. The innovation rationale is pathetically
transparent, and does not hold water when stacked against the collective
realities already put before ICANN.
Further discussions, in lieu of all the negative public sentiment and grave
concerns expressed, are moot. ICANN have been warned. They have have been
informed. They have been asked to shelf this proposal for the right reasons.
There is one remaining path and that is to discontinue the tld flooding
experiment, and for ICANN to get on to the more important work of overseeing
the DNS.
Pushing this tld fiasco on and on in the face of huge opposition is going to
threaten the stability of the internet, and further undermine the public's
confidence in ICANN's decision-making processes and loyalties. This game of
back-and forth "open discussions" has played out.
ICANN are failing to address the core criticisms and concerns contained in the
letters of high level organizations and corporations who have taken the time to
become involved in this public dialogue. That is because the problems posed by
the tld proposal are insurmountable. The verdict is in. It's time to move on.
