Sebastian,
You have prefaced an earlier remark with the statement, "I'm not involved in
ICANN politics". Unfortunately, this battle is all about politics. It's a
continuing political conflict over the total elimination of all public
representation on the Board of the world's most significant public resource.
In this confrontation there are two camps -- those that have fought for and
that continue to fight for the rights of the public in this matter, and those
that are content to collaborate with the current ICANN regime.
You and your associates on the ALAC are in the latter camp -- you are
collaborators that are willing to accept everything that has been dictated in
the bylaws, and in so doing, you seek to foist upon the public a plan that
replaces their "rights" to representation with the paltry "benefits" of
participation. Why should any of us seek to institutionalize a plan that
would forever deny us the representation that was promised in the White
Paper?
As you look around the ICANN community, you will note that not everyone
blindly accepts all ICANN proposals. The ccTLDs still have not accepted the
proposed language for the bylaws that pertain to the ccNSO -- they are a
passionate group that is willing to stand up and fight for their
principles... Similarly, the Root Server operators have still not signed a
contract with ICANN, and the RIRs have not meekly agreed to the command and
control language proposed by ICANN -- only your group has caved in to all of
the ICANN demands and has willingly signalled its acceptance of the permanent
loss of rights for the At-Large community.
I'm sorry, but I have no love for such collaborators and very little respect
for those that will not fight for their principles.
You have asked for a better alternative... fine. Here it is: A Supporting
Organization for the At-Large that elects half of the ICANN Board. This is
what the At-Large wants... it is what the At-Large has always wanted... it is
what was promised to the At-Large.
The ALAC can continue to act as a shill for the ICANN Board and Staff, or it
can disavow this fraudulent "Reform" and publicly oppose the current ICANN
bylaws. The choice is yours.
Best wishes,
Danny
