Dr. Paul Twomey President and Chief Executive Officer Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 4676 Admiralty Way, Suite 330 Marina del Rey, CA 90292

Dear Paul,

As you requested when you visited the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) meeting in Marrakech, the members of the ALAC are pleased to recommend two individuals of outstanding capabilities and backgrounds for your consideration to become members of the President’s Strategy Committee (PSC).

The ALAC nominates Pierre Dandjinou and Avri Doria. As you will note from the following summaries of their backgrounds, both individuals bring a wealth of abilities and achievements that would complement the current members of the PSC.

Pierre Dandjinou, an ALAC member, is an ICT Policy Advisor to the SURF/UNDP based in Benin, and is well known in the region and within the Internet and other important policy forums. As a member of the At Large Study Committee (ALSC) chaired by Carl Bildt, he has distinguished himself in continually promoting the principles of individual user participation and feedback to the ICANN process.

Mr. Dandjinou was the Chair of the Africa component of the ICANN membership Committee, and consequently was instrumental for information and mobilization of African professionals during the election of the At large Directors two years ago. He is a member of the AfriNIC BoT (AfriNIC is the African Internet registry which was accredited by ICANN in 2005); chairs the Benin Internet Society Chapter, and the Africa Internet Group (AIG); and is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the GIPI (Global Internet Policy Initiative). In his current role of ICT Policy Advisor for Africa, he deals with issues pertaining to e-readiness, Internet accessibility, national e-strategies and Internet Governance.

Avri Doria, a GNSO member, is an independent researcher currently affiliated as a research consultant with Lulea University of Technology in Sweden and with ETRI in the Republic of Korea. She also works part time in the CTO Office of Operax AB as a senior consultant.

Ms. Doria, has been an Internet technologist involved in the development of Internet protocols and architectures for over 25 years and is an active participant in the IETF, co-chair of the IRTF Routing Research group, Technical Committee chair of the Multi Service Forum, an active participant in WSIS Civil society and was a member of the WGIG. Her current projects include research into methods of bringing the Internet into areas that are communication challenged and is working with the semi-nomadic Sámi population of Sapmi (aka Lapland) to develop an ICT infrastructure for the UNESCO heritage region of Laponia.

With their personal backgrounds we are convinced that Pierre Dandjinou and Avri Doria will be a very good complement to the committee. It is our hope that you will consider them for inclusion in this important initiative. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

On behalf of the ALAC and its members, I look forward to your decision.

Respectfully submitted,

Annette Muehlberg
Chair
At-Large Advisory Committee
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
