domain pricing
I highly oppose this change. It is going to open a "can of worms" that could likely destroy business' and organization that use their domains as an integral part of their business/function and don't have the budgets to pay over inflated fees that are determined at the registries "discretion". As I read in another post ... how would this valuation work on now trademarked names that were originally registered at registration fee ( xx$ ) and now after tremendous amounts of time, market, expense and good will is a highly trafficed trademarked name? Instead of $7 to renew ... they could feasibly charge $10s/$100's of thousands ++ to a corporation to renew that name and its supporting groups of domains. How many business', services, organizations, personal sites will this new pricing policy destroy? There is no good to be gained with this action ... it is being discussed purely out of trying to squeeze as much money out of domain owners as they possibly can and when they can't squeeze anymore ... they will force those domain owners to be unable to renew their domains. At which point, that leaves them to registry to SELL them off to the highest bidders and "pocket" the cash. Everyone should oppose this .... whats next ... charging us for each piece of email? |
