Dear Vint Cerf and ICANN Board Members -
I am writing you out of tremendous concern. I am aware of the upcoming registry
agreements that eliminate fixed pricing on domain renewals. Without specific
price safeguards written into the contracts, registries can, and will, exploit
this obvious flaw.
On a personal note, I have invested enormous time and financial resources into
the development of my various internet properties - mostly concentrated in the
.biz, .info, and .us domain spaces. It will be highly detrimental to
individuals and businesses to give registries carte blanche on domain renewal
prices ... particularly years after the launch of these respective domain
extensions.
Many internet entrepreneurs are still aiming to one day become profitable, and
work diligently day after day to make their dreams a reality. We have
shouldered the risk, done the work and created value where none existed. To
transfer the rewards of these efforts to various registries is unthinkable ...
and wrong on principle alone.
I request that each of utilize your position to lead ICANN in a proper and just
direction regarding the renewal of the biz/info/org contracts. Individuals and
businesses who took a big risk in these domain spaces do not deserve to have
years of tireless effort compromised, or hard-earned rewards robbed under the
pretense of ICANN's good will for the growth of the internet.
Respectfully,
Max Menius
