Dear Working Group Members.

Set forth below is a compilation of the substantive items discussed and
proposed during the Geographic Regions Review Working Group Call conducted on
19 November. The call discussions focused on the Working Groups’ Public
Workshop scheduled for Cartagena.

Geographic Regions Review Working Group Call Meeting Report

Attendees:

WG Members:
David Archbold
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
Carlton Samuels

Staff:
Bart Boswinkel
Rob Hoggarth
Gisella Gruber-White

1. Topic One – Confirming the Goals of the Workshop and Scheduling The Session

WG members agreed that the goals of the Cartagena Workshop are:

 * Interaction with and feedback from the community on the Interim Report and
potential WG recommendations in the Final Report; and
 * Giving community members a view of next steps in the process.

Attendees agreed that a Thursday morning time slot was a good idea and asked
that the tentative time slot of 830-1000 AM be shifted to 1000 – 1100 AM to
better accommodate community schedules and to reduce conflicts with other
sessions that might diminish attendance.

Staff was directed to pursue a session time change. Staff has secured
permission of the PPC Chair to make the time shift. The Workshop is now
formally scheduled for Thursday 9 December from 1000 – 1100 AM local Cartagena
time in Room 161 of the Cartagena Conference Center.

2. Topic Two – The Workshop Agenda:

The one-hour session will start with a brief overview of the history of the
ICANN Geographic Regions Framework. This will be a brief slightly-updated
version of Dave Archbold’s excellent animated slide presentation that he has
previously presented at the Mexico City and Brussels ICANN Public meetings.

The rest of the meeting will offer a dialogue between WG members and
participants exploring possible answers to the hypothetical questions presented
in the Interim Report.

3. Topic Three - Meeting Materials For the Workshop:

The Staff was directed to prepare a handout itemizing the questions from
Section B of the Interim Report for Workshop participants and observers. A
copy of that document is attached to this message for your review.

Dave will be updating his presentation and sharing a preview copy with WG
members.

Staff has been directed to prepare a memory stick handout for workshop
attendees that includes the Interim Report and a separate copy of the workshop
questions. I am currently reaching out to At-Large staff for advice on pulling
that material together in a format with which the community is familiar.

4. AOB – Wiki Transition and GAC Outreach

Staff reported that the Working Group wiki has been volunteered for early
transition from SocialText to the new Confluence wiki platform. That
transition is not expected to take place before the Cartagena meeting. Cheryl
and Carlton reported that the At Large community has already gone through the
transition and that it proved to be a challenging but ultimately rewarding
experience.

Staff was directed to prepare a draft invitation to the GAC inviting
participation in the Cartagena workshop.

______

Gisella will be sharing a copy of the MP3 recording of the call shortly. The
file has already been loaded on the Working Group Wiki Meetings page at -
https://st.icann.org/geo-review-wg/index.cgi?meetings.

Please share any comments or thoughts on the recorded discussion or this report
at your earliest convenience. Looking forward to seeing you all in Cartagena.

Best regards,

Rob Hoggarth
