Business Constituency comment on Closed Generic TLDs
Attached is submission of the Business Constituency (BC) regarding ICANN's call for comments on "closed generic" TLDs. This comment period was discussed during a BC member call on 12-Feb-2013. BC members were given a 3-page history of the BC's prior positions in support of restricted TLDs, starting in 2007 with sponsored TLDs, and then in 2009 for dot-brand TLDs. (See Appendix A of attachment). As described in the attached document, a poll was sent to BC members on 17-Feb, describing 3 distinct outcomes that could result from different interpretations of the Registry Code of Conduct. Because there was not significant support for any of the poll outcomes, the BC is not submitting a recommendation on closed generics. Instead, the attached document repeats prior BC positions and summarizes our recent discussion of this topic. The BC will watch the progress of this issue and remains ready to answer questions from ICANN board and staff. Steve DelBianco Vice chair for policy coordination Business Constituency Attachment:
